Project Report | Dec 14, 2025
ASNI BOARDING HOUSES

By AMAL ZNIBER | AMIS DES ECOLES PRESIDENT

FACADE OF GIRLS' BOARDING HOUSE
FACADE OF GIRLS' BOARDING HOUSE
 1. Introduction
Following the devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region in 2023, Amis des Écoles launched a reconstruction and educational support initiative in Asni. A central component of this initiative is the construction of two boarding houses —one for girls and one for boys— to ensure continued access to education for students from earthquake-affected and remote communities.
We are grateful for the financial support received from GlobalGiving, which has played a critical role in advancing construction works and strengthening the safety and sustainability of both facilities. This report provides an update on progress achieved to date, the current status of each boarding house, and remaining needs.
 2. Project Objectives
The boarding houses aim to:
  •  Provide safe, secure, and earthquake-resilient accommodation for students
  •  Support educational continuity for children affected by the 2023 earthquake
  •  Improve living conditions, safety, and well-being, particularly for girls
  •  Integrate sustainable infrastructure, including solar energy systems
  •  Strengthen long-term community resilience through durable construction
3. Progress Achieved
3.1 Girls’ Boarding House
The girls’ boarding house is at an advanced stage of completion. Progress includes:
Flooring:
Mosaic flooring fully completed on the first and second floors
Painting:
First coat of paint completed throughout the building
Roof & Sustainability Measures:
  •   Roof completed and sealed with appropriate insulation
  •   Solar panels installed on the roof
Utilities & Safety Systems:
  •   Plumbing foundations completed
  •   Electrical foundations completed
  •   Fire hazard prevention measures installed
Openings & Fixtures:
  •   Window frames and door frames currently under installation
  •   Toilets received and ready for installation
Exterior Works:
  •   Facade stonework partially completed
This building is now entering its final finishing phase.
 3.2 Boys’ Boarding House
The boys’ boarding house is progressing, though at a slower pace:
Structural Works:
  •   Ground works (*gros œuvres*) fully completed
  •   Partial installation of facade stonework
Utilities:
  •   Plumbing installation ongoing
  •   Electrical installation ongoing
Interior Works:
  •    Flooring works beginning
  •    Bathroom construction in progress
  •    Toilets received and available for installation
While significant foundational progress has been made, the building remains incomplete.
 4. Financial Status and Funding Gap
Thanks to GlobalGiving’s support, Amis des Écoles has been able to advance both projects substantially, particularly the girls’ boarding house.
However, completion of the boys’ boarding house requires additional funding. We currently face a funding shortfall of USD 500,000, which is necessary to complete:
  • Plumbing and electrical systems
  • Flooring and interior finishes
  • Bathroom installations
  • Doors, windows, and final fixtures
  • Final safety checks and compliance works
We are actively seeking complementary funding to close this gap and ensure both facilities can be fully operational.
5. Impact to Date
Although the boarding houses are not yet operational, the impact of the project is already evident:
  • Creation of safe and durable educational infrastructure in an earthquake-affected area
  • Support for the local economy through employment of local workers
  • Restoration of stability and hope for families affected by the disaster
  • Integration of renewable energy solutions to reduce long-term operating costs
Once completed, the boarding houses will significantly improve access to education and living conditions for students in the Asni region.
6. Next Steps
The upcoming priorities for Amis des Écoles include:
1. Completion of window and door installations in the girls’ boarding house
2. Final interior finishing works in the girls’ facility
3. Securing additional funding to complete the boys’ boarding house
4. Completion of plumbing, electricity, flooring, and bathrooms in both buildings
5. Final inspections and preparation for occupancy
7. Acknowledgment
Amis des Écoles sincerely thanks GlobalGiving and its donors for their continued trust and support. Your contribution has been essential in advancing this project and in helping earthquake-affected children regain access to safe education and stable living conditions.
We look forward to providing further updates as the project progresses toward completion.
