Project Report | Aug 25, 2025
2 Boarding houses in Asni

By Amal Zniber | President and co founder of Amis des Ecoles

We have completed the structural works for both boarding houses. Current works focus on installations and finishes (electrical, plumbing, flooring, and wooden door frames). Due to a shortage of skilled workers and a funding shortfall, the project completion date has been revised to the end of this year (on or before 12/31/2025).

Progress to date
- Structural work: Completed for both boarding houses (foundations, load-bearing walls, roof structures, and main external finishes).
- Site clearance and basic safety measures implemented.
- Materials for upcoming trades have been sourced where possible, with some items still pending procurement.

Current activities (ongoing)
- Electrical: Rough-in wiring, conduit runs, and placement of main distribution points.
- Plumbing: Drainage and water supply rough-ins, connection points prepared for fixtures.
- Flooring: Subfloor preparation and beginning of finish-floor installation in designated areas.
- Carpentry: Fabrication and installation of wooden frames for doors.

Key issues and impacts
- Labor shortage: Reduced availability of skilled electricians, plumbers, and carpenters has slowed the schedule.
- Funding shortfall: Insufficient funds have paused or delayed procurement of some finishing materials and hiring of additional workers.
- Impact: Project completion date moved from the original schedule to end-of-year (12/31/2025). This extended timeline increases carrying costs and may require additional oversight to maintain quality.

Revised timeline (summary)
- Remaining rough-ins and finishes (electrical, plumbing): next 6–8 weeks (subject to worker availability).
- Flooring and carpentry finishes: following completion of rough-ins, estimated 6–8 weeks.
- Final fixtures, testing, and commissioning: 2–4 weeks.
- Target completion: by 12/31/2025, contingent on timely availability of funds and labor.

Next steps and mitigation actions
- Prioritize procurement of critical materials to avoid further delays.
- Recruit locally where possible and engage subcontractors to fill immediate skilled-labor gaps.
- Phase work to allow partial completion and occupation of sections if acceptable.
- Tighten cashflow monitoring and re-sequence noncritical expenditures.

Request for support
- Additional funding to cover outstanding procurement and labor costs.
- Assistance identifying local subcontractors or
