In August 2009 READ International refurbished 12 Tanzanian school libraries to support the donation of our textbooks.
READ International have delivered over 550,000 textbooks to over 550 Tanzanian secondary schools. READ International embarked on an exciting new project to support the donation of resources. By providing schools with sets of textbooks to use in class, READ has increased the access a student has to knowledge. Our Library Renovation Project aims to create spaces for Tanzanian students which are conducive both for study and leisure.
The renovation project is a completely student-led initiative. READ volunteers (from UK and Tanzania) take on the responsibility of the whole project from the library design to the organization of student work-teams.
We follow the rule of “quality- first time round” with every library renovation. We establish long term library groups, reading groups, school prefects, etc devoted to sustaining the success and use of the library long after we've gone.
This project has provided additional documentation in a PDF file (projdoc.pdf).
