Almost 1000 Impacted With Literacy Campaign

Objective

Implementation of Activities: To create awareness in the school, formulation of leaders and readers club and engaging children in literacy promotion activities.

Progress

School wide awareness campaign, formation of Leaders and Readers Club and promotion of literacy through reading and creative activities were carried out successfully from the two schools selected for the project.

Outputs Created

  • Overall, 130 children including 8 teachers were reached and 109 participated directly in the group activities to promote literacy.
  • About 80 children including 5 teachers were reached through the school wide literacy campaign in Roman Catholic Mission primary School, Bebi, Obanliku, while 48 children participated in the literacy promotion activities and they formed the school readers club.
  • About 50 students including 3 teachers with Vice Principal Administrative and Librarian of the schools were reached through the school wide literacy campaign in Community Secondary School, Ijua, Busi Ward, Obanliku, and all the 50 students participated in the literacy promotion activities and they formed the school readers club.
  • About 607 people were reached in the two school through the school wide literacy campaign.
  • Formation of Leaders & Readers Club: 18 Students filled the form to join the club in CSS, Busi and 18 joined including 4 Teachers in RCM, Bebi

Key Milestone/ Deliverables

  1. Literacy materials were given to all the participants in the 2 schools.
  2. Reading materials were donated to the leaders and reader club in the two schools.
  3. Refreshment was provided for the participants in the 2 schools.
  4. Gifts were given to all group leaders according to their performance together with their team.

Next Steps - Monitoring

In the month of May. I visited my project schools twice. To help teachers and some of the children who are leading their class during Reading Time (volunteer facilitators) and see how they are progressing.
