We are pleased to announce that we have added two new schools to our Salinas, CA roster. For the 2024/25 academic year, between our schools in Greenfield, King City and Salinas (all CA), we will see a more than 20% increase in classrooms from the previous year. Schools started welcoming students back last week so it will be a few weeks before we are able to start our work with students and determine our final classroom counts for the year.
Low literacy is the root cause of most societal issues. As Anne Fernald, acclaimed Stanford Psychologist, proved, there is a direct link between the number of words a little one hears before they start kindergarten and their future success in school and beyond. In fact, students who cannot read proficiently by the 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of school. Two-thirds of students who cannot read on grade level by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail and/or on welfare. Over 70% of inmates in the U.S. read at or below the 4th grade level. Read to Me Project helps ensure that children hear the words necessary to give them the pre-literacy skills needed to start school on track and stay on track by empowering their school-aged older siblings with the skills and books to read to little ones at home.
Read to Me Project was designed to change lives, with your help it will.
