We are pleased to present an update on the significant impact of this project over recent months.

Since the beginning of March 2024, substantial progress has been made toward achieving the project goals. Between 1 March and 5 July, two Spotted Hyaenas were captured and collared. The tracking data from the first hyaena led to the discovery of a snare site, where the second hyaena was subsequently caught. Veterinary assistance was promptly arranged for this hyaena, which was then treated and collared. The movements of both hyaenas have resulted in the discovery of at least 10 snared carcasses, including those of lion, Spotted Hyaena, impala, buffalo, elephant, and waterbuck. Additionally, during the same period, the EWT team successfully collared 1 lion and 4 lionesses.

Further tracking efforts, which remain undisclosed for security reasons, have led to the identification of 20 additional carcasses over the past two months.

A collaborative effort has also resulted in the removal of hundreds of snares since March, with EWT field officers removing a total of 387 snares.

We are exceptionally satisfied with the outcomes of this initiative. The reports clearly demonstrate the project's value and its significant impact on protecting lions and other wildlife in the Greater Kruger National Park. Consequently, we will be increasing our funding to the Endangered Wildlife Trust to support the continued success of this important work.
