The main aim of the project is to make the learning environments safe, accessible and inclusive for children with disabilities. Our organisation and partners have been advocating and working in the field of disability and inclusion for many years, with projects that focus on practical ways to see inclusion of children with disabilities in all aspects of life including in education. This project is a part of wanting to see the UN CRPD, SDG and National Development Strategy realised in Tajikistan
Children with disabilities are affected from lack of access to clean water, lack of access to education, limited access to inclusive education. This leads to a lack of knowledge and decreased ability to participate in the labour market, live an independent life, or support a family. Finally, people with disability lose their ability to participate in social life and to be included in their communities.
This project seeks to address various barriers that children with disabilities face to accessing safe and inclusive education - from early rehabilitation and preparation of children with disabilities, working with families, helping schools with physical accessibility including accessible toilets and/or WASH facilities. Furthermore, advocacy is needed to support Inclusive Education as a National strategy, which includes advocacy on local levels where specific decisions are made.
Children with disabilities are included in all aspects of society and are able to access their right to education. Changes in the school environment can benefit the students and school environment as a whole, where WASH facilities are improved and improved hygiene practises are promoted in the school. This project aims to contribute to Sustainable development agenda of "leaving no-one behind", particularly contributing to SDG 4 on education for all, SDG 6 for clean water and sanitation
