Ramadan 2020 is almost upon us and it is a time for the generous and the wealthy to start supporting underserved communities in Lebanon. In Ramadan, people fast from dust till dawn, and through this project, we will be providing impoverished families with hot meals and food parcels to survive this month, mainly during the economic crisis and the coronavirus outbreak in Lebanon which has left them with no support.
Ramadan this year comes in such a hard time for people in Lebanon since the country is facing its worst financial crisis since its 15-year civil war, as its public debt stands among the largest in the world, culminating in widespread anti-government protests that began on October 17, 2019, and stopped as the coronavirus outbreak crippled the country's economy. This Ramadan, many underserved families are in desperate need of your support to be able to survive the month and feed their loved ones.
The project will be providing 2 types of services: 1- Hot meals: URDA oversees the preparation and distribution of hot meals through its charitable kitchen for the poor displaced and refugee families as well as to poor Lebanese families all over Lebanon. 2- Food parcels: URDA prepares and distributes food parcels; each sufficient for a single family for 2 weeks . Food parcels contain various food items like rice, sugar, salt, pasta, canned food, flour, oil, legumes, etc.
Last Ramadan, we managed to support more than 198,778 individuals. This project will allow thousands of impoverished refugees and host families to fast the whole month of Ramadan without worrying about having enough food to survive. It will also prevent any woman, elderly, child or man, from collapsing due to malnutrition. Through preparing hot meals in our charitable kitchen, we'll be able to support a number of women and their families by providing them with a job for the holy month of Ramadan
