ACTIVITY REPORT ON AWARENESS-RAISING ACTIVITIES FOR THE PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE
I. INTRODUCTION
For nearly a year, Ebola virus disease has continued to affect populations in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), including Ituri, North Kivu, and Haut-Uélé provinces, claiming numerous lives.
Despite the efforts made by the authorities and civil society organizations, certain segments of society, particularly young people, continue to underestimate the severity of this deadly disease. This situation has prompted COJESKI to strengthen awareness-raising activities at all levels, with the aim of contributing to the eradication of the disease and protecting human lives.
II. ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT
During the last quarter, we conducted awareness-raising activities on the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease. During these activities, our messages focused on the following areas:
Breaking the silence surrounding Ebola virus disease in all its forms within educational settings and in the cities of Beni and Goma.
Promoting better management of Ebola cases in educational settings.
Disseminating updated hygiene measures for the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease.
Providing education to girls, boys, and their parents on preventing the spread of Ebola in educational settings.
Strengthening the capacities of teachers and local authorities regarding the latest Ebola prevention measures.
In addition to the awareness-raising activities conducted in schools, we reached out to more than 500 households in Beni City, enabling us to reach approximately 2,500 people, based on an average of five people per household.
Initially, we were able to carry out these activities with limited resources because we have not yet received the expected donation. Despite these financial constraints, COJESKI remains committed to raising public awareness and strengthening community engagement in the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease.
III. CONCLUSION
As awareness-raising activities continue in the field, people who were previously resistant are beginning to understand that Ebola virus disease exists and that preventive measures must be strictly observed to combat its spread.
With the support of donations, we intend to intensify our awareness-raising efforts through public service announcements, the use of flip charts, documentary screenings in public places, Public Expression Forums, sports awareness events, radio programs, and community dialogues focusing on the prevention and control of Ebola virus disease. These activities will aim to strengthen community awareness and engagement in order to contribute to the eradication of the disease.
To date, we have not yet received any donations from external donors.
