On July 1st, 2022, Ashwini Charitable Trust and Agastya International Foundation launched a science project in honour of our beloved late trustee Radhika Arvindam.
The aim of this program is to stimulate our children’s curiosity and ignite their passion for science.
The second session was held on August 2, 2022. The topic was: Set-up and Usage of Fundamental Microscopic Equipment in Biology. In this session, students learned about the microscope, their components, different types of slides, and the identification of plant and blood cells, as well as their structures. They were given opportunities to examine the slides under the microscope on their own. The students remarked that this was their first time using a microscope, and they were very intrigued. They felt elated that they had a chance to participate and have a hands-on learning experience. The total number of students and teachers who attended this program were 43 and 3 respectively.
The third session was held on August 18th, 2022. The topic was: Laboratory and Clinical Thermometers- Application, properties and their functions. The session began with a theoretical discussion of thermometers, including their components, applications, and functions. In this session, the children learned about the differences between clinical and laboratory thermometers, as well as how to use each. They were separated into groups and thermometers were distributed to each group to experiment with. The total number of students and teachers who attended this program were 46 and 3 respectively.
The fourth session was held on September 2, 2022. The topic of the session was displacement, double displacement reaction and decomposition. In this session, children were introduced to the different types of chemical reactions which include displacement, decomposition and double displacement. They learned about the various ways in which chemical components react with one another. They also learned about the various chemical formulas which represent these chemical reactions. The total number of students and teachers who attended this program were 47 and 2 respectively.
We received some wonderful feedback from our children:
"It was my first time using a test tube and performing chemical reactions. Before we would only read from our books, but now I can do it in real life. This makes learning more fun!" - Grade 7 student
"I really enjoyed the science classes, my favourite was using the microscope and observing the cells in the slide was amazing!'' - Grade 6 student
"I use to find science boring! Now I find it interesting and fun! I can't wait for the next class." - Grade 5 student
We want to express our gratitude to everyone who helped make this possible.
