Education in the 21st century requires students with the knowledge, skills, perspectives, & practices essential to be responsible citizens-as consumers, employees and entrepreneurs. Educating for active responsible citizenship requires a reorientation of teaching and learning-moving from education for employment to education for responsible citizenship;from information transfer to analysis of information; from textbook learning within the classroom to real world learning in the community.
To assist teachers through this transition, LSF has developed Resources for Rethinking (r4r.ca), a free online database with access to approximately a 1,000 excellent, peer-reviewed, curriculum- matched resources for educators from hundreds of publishers. These resources include lesson plans and children's literature. Educators can search by language, jurisdiction, grade, subject, curriculum unit, and sustainability theme in order to get the perfect resource. One stop shopping for teachers!
Up to 6,500 teachers per month access R4R.ca resources providing them with exceptional lessons plans and books to engaged their students in real world learning. 14 Hot Topics featured on R4R provide a focus for student learning linked to national and international campaigns, such as World Water Day and Buy Nothing Day. By advancing policy and practice, supporting educators, engaging students, and showcasing success, LSF is helping transform education for the 21st century.
