“I’m so happy, this year has been the best year of my life” Lemma shares with a beaming smile.
Education is not a privilege; it is a human right that, sadly, is not accessible to all children. There are many obstacles in the way of many children to receiving an education, and this is especially the case for kids with special needs.
Our mission at BHE is to destruct these barriers and to give disadvantaged and special need children the equal opportunities they have a right to. Lemma is a testament to this profound endeavor.
Brave Hearts Ethiopia contnues to strive and ensure that all children, including children with special need like Lemma, have the opportunity to receive optimum quality education that is backed by resources that enhance the child’s learning, no matter the need of the child may be.

Lemma has been a much-loved child of Brave Hearts Ethiopia (BHE) since 2014. He is one of the brightest, funniest and most popular students at his school, but it wasn’t always this way. Lemma first joined BHE when he was in sixth grade and was greatly impacted by childhood trauma. “He suffered the emotional scars from living in institutions that were at times very harsh and the anger, frustration and pain that comes from severe disability", along with the death of his mother and the separation from his family. When BHE recently learned that Lemma had a father and two sisters and that he wanted to live with them, it was a joy to help him reunite with them. Over the past few years Lemma has come a long way, from overcoming adversity to be coming a hopeful young man with a drive to succeed.

At the beginning of last year, Lemma’s academic results were rather poor, so BHE thought it best to provide supplementary educational support. He received additional tutorial lessons and extra lessons at school. Lemma took full advantage of this opportunity, determined to work hard to achieve his ideal results.
This year Lemma sat the 10th grade national exam and passed with flying colours: He achieved a 3.6 GPA out of 4.0. Lemma has now started 11th grade on a full academic scholarship, granted due to his exemplary academic results. His drive for success is inspirational.
Lemma loves singing, helping others and watching football, especially if his team Arsenal wins!
This young man with a big heart is only partially sponsored and is in desperate need of your support for his medical, housing and food needs. With your help, we can help Lemma through the final years of high school and into university.
