Quality Education for Orphan & Vulnerable Children

By BHE Team | Project Leader

Rightfully, Brave Hearts Ethiopia believes that education is the key factor to empowering communities and strives to ensure that children have the opportunity to receive optimum quality education. BHE also believes that education must be backed by resources that enhance the child’s learning. Aside from the regular after school tutorial classes and library services, during the school break, BHE provides biweekly language and computer classes, and diverse extra-curricular activities such as Taekwondo, painting, and dancing that helps the children nurture their passions and talents.

One of the most rewarding moments of such efforts is seeing a child improve their academics. This is the result of the hard work of our mentors, social workers, donors, the entire BHE family and most of all, the child.

“Through my education I didn't just develop skills, I didn't just develop the ability to learn but I developed confidence,” Michelle Obama

Zemzem is a testament to this belief. She is one of our children who has made us beyond proud due to the dramatic increase in her grades over the past few years. When she first joined the BHE family, academics and self-esteem were not Zemzem’s strongest points. She has worked hard over

the past years to improve her grades, taking full advantage of Brave Heart’s tutorial services and study groups. BHE is honored to have been there to provide Zemzem with everything she needed to achieve her goal.

We are delighted that Zemzem will be joining high school this month after scoring remarkably high on her national entrance exam.

As Zemzem puts it, “I used to be very shy and quiet. I was not confident but BHE helped me change that. I now have a lot more of self-esteem and I am more sociable than I have ever been.” Zemzem aspires to be come a medical doctor and help vulnerable mothers and children in need.

BHE is not only focused on supporting children in primary and high school education. We also support and provide opportunities for children such as Asnaku to enter and complete higher education.

When Asnaku joined BHE she was in 12th grade. Sadly, her results were not high enough to join a regular university program. Asnaku’s hope was restored when she joined university through an extension program. Asnaku worked hard to achieve extremely high grades and earned a place in the regular program. This year, Asnaku graduated with her Bachelor of Accounting and Finance.

With her radiant and kind personality, Asnaku has been a wonderful role model to the younger students. Like many role models in history, she believes that education is the key to the future and has been working very hard to enable herself to support herself fully as a young adult in the future. Asnaku mentors younger students at BHE.

Brave Hearts Ethiopia believes that education is the most powerful tool that can empower orphaned and vulnerable children and youth to pull themselves and their communities out of poverty. Thank you all for your generous donations, which enable us to support students such as Zemzem and Asnaku and set them on the path to transforming their lives.
