Our efforts here at Teach for India are focused on equipping the next generation with the most powerful tool they need to be successful: education. And just as our fellows pass on their passion for learning to the students, some of these students hope to pass on that same enthusiasm to following generations.
Today, let us share with you a short story from a 3rd grade classroom in Ahmedabad, a story focusing on 1 of the 20 students our fellow Shyam Patel inspired, told by Shyam himself:
"As I sit at the front of my classroom waiting for my students to trickle in and reviewing my class agenda for the day, I see Vijay* standing behind me and glancing at my plans. He then sits quietly and watches me write on the board. One day, I decided to ask him just why he was so curious to see me doing my work! He replied, "I want to be a teacher one day, too." It is Vijay's drive and focus that holds me to the highest of expectations for all my students. I have seen him go from a shy student to one who leads our morning meetings, helps our second graders with their work and facilitates brain and body breaks. It is this opportunity that has allowed Vijay to learn how to facilitate group opportunities and made him a more patient and loving student. And some day, he will be able to fulfill his dream of being a teacher."
Help students like Vijay realize their dreams by helping us give them the tools they need to do so! On July 15, make a contribution of any size on GlobalGiving that will match 50% of donated proceeds! All contributions will go towards 4 classrooms in Ahmedabad, effectually helping 140 students!
Together, we can create opportunities - together, we can bridge the gap.
