We are so thankful for the Golden Heart City of Fairbanks and the 100+ Golden Heart Women who chose Joel's Place this summer! 100 women give a chosen non-profit $100 each! 100x100 is $10,000. These unrestricted funds made our summer programs work! We also received $2000 from TOTE Maritime Services for the pump track and will find out the final word for three grants in the next few weeks. We had hoped that the track would be here early this summer but we know that whenever the funds are released to us it will be an amazing feature. We were able to resurface our existing skatepark and reuse the ramp armor/skatelite to build a mobile park that was set up downtown for the Midnight Sun Festival on June 18th.
Last week, I had a skateboarder sit down with me at my table and tell me his story. He was an active participant, volunteer for many years and then had a real crisis of faith. As a young dad and husband he has decided to live, love and volunteer again. I am reminded of our promise to weather the white water rapids of the teen years (turns out they often last well into the 20's)! Holding space for young people is key. You might forget who you are, but God does not. He who called you is faithful, and He will do it. So I am reminded again to love unconditionally... Love Wins. It is also a reminder of why we are learning to prevent suicide... getting QPR Institute trained. Young men in Alaska devastatingly take their own lives in tragically high numbers between the ages of 15-35. In Fairbanks half of all suicides are in this demographic.
Wellspring Revival Ministries long term goal is to empower young people to be part of a compassionate community. We do that by inviting them to be aware of their own emotions so that they can recognize anothers. We can't trully love others without loving ourselves and knowing God's great love. It's a journey and we are so thankful to still be here in Fairbanks after 18 years loving kids for the long haul... planting eternity in their hearts.
Thank you.
