Over the past six months, the Patient Treatment Assistance Program (PTAP) of Lady Helen Child Health Foundation (LHCHF) has continued to provide urgent financial support to children from low-income families receiving care in public hospitals across Abuja and Lagos. Thanks to committed supporters, children battling life-threatening conditions such as leukemia, congenital heart disease, severe infections, prematurity complications, tumors, and sickle cell crises were able to continue life-saving treatment without interruption.
During this reporting period, applications were reviewed in close collaboration with hospital social welfare departments to ensure that the most vulnerable families received assistance. Approved cases received direct disbursements supporting surgeries, chemotherapy sessions, medications, neonatal intensive care, and emergency interventions. Each disbursement represents more than financial assistance — it represents renewed hope for families who had exhausted every other option.
One young child diagnosed with acute leukemia was able to resume chemotherapy after treatment had stalled due to unpaid hospital bills. In another case, a premature baby requiring specialized neonatal care received timely support that enabled continued hospitalization and stabilization. These stories reflect the real and immediate impact of timely intervention.
Beyond financial assistance, LHCHF strengthened its weekly hospital visitation and bi-weekly follow-up system with social welfare officers. This proactive engagement has improved early identification of indigent cases and ensured faster response to urgent needs.
As we continue to grow our presence on GlobalGiving, support from this community will be instrumental in helping us scale these timely interventions. We are still building momentum on this platform, and early contributions here will directly accelerate treatment for children whose families have nowhere else to turn. We are grateful to be part of this global network of changemakers and look forward to expanding this impact together.
Thank you for standing with us and for helping ensure that no child is denied critical medical care because of financial hardship.
