Having successfully piloted trauma-informed psychosocial support for 100 women in Kabul and Jawzjan, WPSO is now out of funding and seeking to expand this vital program to 5 provinces (Kabul, Bamyan, Kunduz, Farah and Baghlan). This project will deliver trauma-informed care, stress management, and conflict resolution training directly to 250 vulnerable women affected by domestic conflict, restoring family relationships and building community resilience.
Women and families across Afghanistan face severe psychological distress, isolation, and domestic conflict due to prolonged crisis and restricted social support systems. In regions like Kabul, Jawzjan, and surrounding provinces, many women endure high levels of trauma, anxiety, and household tension without safe access to mental health services or coping tools. Following WPSO's successful pilot in two provinces, our funding ended-leaving over 300 women on waiting lists.
WPSO will expand its proven, trauma-informed psychosocial resilience program to 250 direct female beneficiaries across 5 Afghan provinces (Kabul, Jawzjan, and 3 new target regions). Through local female community focal points, we will deliver small-group interactive workshops focused on emotional regulation, stress management, mindfulness, and conflict resolution. We will also train community facilitators to ensure safe, localized delivery and provide ongoing peer support.
By training 250 women and local facilitators, the project creates a multiplier effect that restores household stability and spreads emotional well-being to over 1,500 family and community members. Participants develop lasting skills in active listening, stress reduction, and peaceful conflict resolution-improving partner and child relationships. Integrating trained local focal points creates a sustainable, community-owned support network that continues providing support by their own.
