New Activities with the Pilot Street Project!

By Michele James-Deramo | Director of Service-Learning, CSECP

Dear Friends,

In December 2010, you donated to family literacy programming sponsored by the Pilot Street Project / Coalition for Refugee Resettlement.  Your funding helped us to provide support to our class at Indian Rock Village, which serves a dozen women and their pre-school aged children each week.  Most recently we were able, after several months' efforts, to recruit an Albanian woman who hadn't attended ESL classes because she had three small children at home.  This woman is now a regular in the class, and her children are benefiting from some supervised play time.

I am writing today to request your support once again.  The Pilot Street Project / Coalition for Refugee Resettlement has another campaign through Global Giving during the month of April.  Our focus for this month is Capacity Building programs, ranging from basic adult ESL to pre-GED, college preparation workshops, and the Grower's Academy for small scale farmers.  These programs support intergenerational educational initiatives within the refugee communities in Roanoke.  Please visit our project page on the Global Giving site, read about what we are doing in the capacity building realm, and consider offering your continued support: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/buildingcapacity-psp/

Thank you!
