Many NGOs Lack Safeguarding/Abuse Report Systems

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your generous support of the PSEA Training for Staff/Volunteers of African NGOs project. We are grateful for every contribution received and for your commitment to safer humanitarian and development work across Africa.

Despite growing awareness of sexual exploitation and abuse within the aid sector, many organizations still operate without adequate safeguarding knowledge, clear reporting procedures, or trained personnel. In some cases, staff and volunteers are unsure how to identify warning signs, respond to disclosures, or handle complaints appropriately. This leaves both community members and workers vulnerable.

At this time, the donations received are still not sufficient to begin project implementation. More support is needed before we can organize the planned training sessions, produce learning materials, and provide follow-up support to participating organizations.

This project seeks to strengthen the capacity of NGO staff and volunteers working in health, education, humanitarian assistance, and community development. Through practical training, participants will learn how to prevent abuse, respond appropriately when concerns arise, and improve protection measures within their organizations. The program will also support organizations in reviewing and strengthening their internal reporting and safeguarding processes.

Creating safe environments requires more than good intentions. It requires knowledge, accountability, and systems that protect both staff and the communities they serve. Without these safeguards, harmful practices may remain hidden and survivors may continue to suffer without support.

We appreciate the encouragement and support shown so far. As additional funding becomes available, we look forward to moving this project into implementation and helping more organizations strengthen their safeguarding practices.

Thank you for helping promote safer workplaces, safer programs, and greater protection for vulnerable people across Africa.

Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
