Summary: SOVA proposes an Emergency Shelter and Non Food Items (ES/NFI) intervention that seeks to respond to the needs of 500 households very vulnerable internally displaced people's as a result recent conflict coupled with drought that severely affected IDPs in Mogadishu districts. The primary objective of the response is to protect and save the lives of the internally displaced persons and the poor host community. Challenge What is the problem or need? In January 2024, 112,448 people were displaced by conflict and drought, a 231 per cent increase compared to March 2024. This significant increase of displacements was driven by Banadir region, which received 60 per cent of the new arrivals. This was in contrast to May 2023 when the two most affected regions were Togdheer and Banadir regions with respectively 26 per cent and 22 per cent of the new arrivals.
The proposed shelter project will timely respond and improving the protection and living condition 1500HHs with individual of 3000 most vulnerable internally displaced population in Dayniile,Kahda,Hiliwa,Daarusalaam and Gubadley district through provision of emergency shelter kits, and distribution hygiene materials like bar soaps and empty plastic buckets
