Dear GlobalGiving Team,

Greetings from Indonesia!

We are grateful to report the completion of our project with the title “Providing Inclusive House for Persons with Disabilities in Central Sulawesi” which started from April 2020 and completed in mid-November 2020. Since the commencement of the construction work was at the beginning of the COVID-19, the team experienced delay of implementation. However, they were able to adjust the timeline accordingly to accommodate health protocol and safeguarding measures during the implementation.

YEU received USD 25,000 from GlobalGiving Foundation to fully construct 3 houses and retrofit 8 houses for vulnerable populations affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Central Sulawesi-Indonesia. In total, GlobalGiving fund has helped 11 families which were carefully selected from Palu, Sigi and Donggala to acquire healthy and accessible houses which will improve the wellbeing of persons with disabilities within those families. We will not be able to accomplish our project, to improve the accessible environment for the vulnerable persons, without the support from the local masons, bricklayers and carpenters who are willing to put safe building code into practice and follow the guidance from our architect.

This construction project is not only targeting persons with disability or elderly who have difficulty in mobility, but beyond that, it is also educating their families and communities on how to ensure safety, healthy and inclusiveness in treating vulnerable groups in daily basis. Beneficiaries who have stayed in the new accessible houses expressed their gratitude and joy to explore the house freely without any barrier.

They shared that without the support they will not be able to acquire the accesible house by themselves due to economic condition. They also informed that the living condition and quality have improved since the completion of the accessible houses. Some families even add more basic facilities to the house independently, such as electricity, panting interior and exterior of the house and additional water piping system to allow for more water access points in the house.

As of mid-November 2020, YEU was able manage 100% from the total grant and handed over the houses to the respective families.

Finally, we would like to express our appreciation for all your tremendous support and donations.
