Supporting Children's Mental Health and Education

By Lilla Pellechi (Source: Direct Relief) | Manager, Digital & Community Fundraising

Your support is helping children in Ukraine access the care and support they need when they need it most.

As the war in Ukraine continues, children face not only immediate health needs, but also the emotional toll of prolonged uncertainty, displacement, and loss. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, Direct Relief continues to work alongside Ukrainian partners to address these evolving needs and help communities access essential care.

Recently, Direct Relief committed $750,000 to the Olena Zelenska Foundation to expand support for children affected by the war and those receiving long-term medical treatment. The funding will help establish five new hospital-based “School of Superheroes” centers in 2027, allowing children to continue learning, stay connected with teachers and peers, and maintain a sense of normalcy while receiving care. The partnership will also expand access to mental health and psychosocial support.

Today, 22 “School of Superheroes” centers operate across 17 regions of Ukraine, helping children continue their education during hospital stays. This new commitment will build on that work, supporting children not only through their medical treatment, but also in their emotional well-being and development.

Direct Relief’s support for Ukraine extends across a broad range of healthcare needs. Since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, Direct Relief has provided more than $2.5 billion in donated medicines and medical supplies, alongside financial support for healthcare and humanitarian programs.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping make this work possible. Your support is helping children in Ukraine access the care, support, and opportunities they need to heal, learn, and build a brighter future.
