FMIC is the top-rated tertiary hospital in Afghanistan providing exemplary quality and safe care to the patients, ensuring accessibility of services; both physical and financial, such that needy patients are cared for with respect and dignity. FMIC has always been striving to develop new services in response to public needs and expectations keeping in mind viability and sustainability. Since its establishment FMIC has carried out programs and projects in a manner that serves the critical healthcare needs of the country and enhances the ability of the institute to move towards sustainability
FMIC has many distinctions to its credit e.g It is the first hospital in Afghanistan to: perform open-heart surgery (2006), do successful esophageal atresia repair (2006) launch a telemedicine programme (2007), perform closed-heart surgery by an Afghan cardiac surgeons (2008) be awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification (2009) perform open-heart surgery by Afghan cardiac surgeons (2010), conduct residency training in rare specialties such as anesthesiology, cardiology, pathology and radiology (2013), install 128-slice CT scanner (2013), 1st to successfully separate conjoined twins (2015), establish state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit (2016), perform successful surgical closure of a patent ductus arteriosus on a baby weighing less than 1 kg (2.2 lbs) (2017), perform thoracoscopic repair of a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (2018), conduct residency training in cardiovascular surgery (2019), get recognition of FMIC nurses at global level (2020-22) and recipient of IHF award (2021).
In November 2022; after going through an extensive hybrid (physical & virtual) external audit process, FMIC has been recognized by SafeCare for level 5 standards accreditation with 99% compliance”. All those achievements were possible only due to the visionary governance, professional management and dedicated work of the entire team.
