By Mudau Dzivhuluwani Rinah | Provides safe school transport to 80 children
Every morning, 80 bright young faces at Takalani Children’s Home prepare for school; their laughter, backpacks, and eager hearts all part of a routine that begins long before the classroom bell rings. Ensuring that each child travels safely to and from school remains one of our biggest priorities. Since launching this project, we have been working diligently behind the scenes to make this dream a sustainable reality.
In the past few months, we’ve taken a step back to reassess our transport needs to ensure that every donation and effort goes the distance, literally. Initially, our plan was to purchase a 23-seater minibus, but after consulting with transport experts and reviewing usage patterns, we realised this would require multiple trips each day. Over time, that would mean higher fuel and maintenance costs, and more wear on the vehicle. We’ve now identified a more suitable 40-seater bus, which will not only accommodate all our children comfortably but also help us reduce long-term costs and ensure the vehicle’s longevity.
We are delighted to share that we’ve received a quote of $124,300 (dated 29th September), bringing us one step closer to launching the next phase, fundraising! To kick things off, our dedicated UK fundraisers are hosting a Charity Curry Night on 10th November, marking the start of this exciting journey. Back home in South Africa, Our director is planning a Charity Gala Dinner on 28th December at Khoroni Hotel Convention Resort, near the children’s home, where we’ll gather our community to celebrate and raise support for this vital transport initiative.
This project is about peace of mind, safety, and opportunity. Every kilometre this vehicle will travel represents access to education, stability, and a brighter future for our children. We’re deeply grateful for your continued belief in Takalani Children’s Home, and we can’t wait to share the milestones ahead as we move closer to putting this bus on the road.
