We've been having a very high energy session at CityArts this spring as students design and build #STEAM inspired games for our upcoming gala fundraiser, learn new clay techniques in our ceramics studio, and practice mastering new hip hop moves! As always, we are very thankful for your support in helping us continue to hold our place as one of the top youth arts programs in the nation! Take a look at our Spring Session photo album to see what we've been up to.
The CityArts STEAM Friday Residency Project at the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School wrapped up this session. K and 1st graders decorated outdoor planters and planted lettuce and radishes outside of their school! All projects have been completed and our final showcase will take place on the evening of June 8th.
CityArts student, Lia, wrote a letter of support to the National Endowment for the Arts in March. She reflects on how her time at ¡CityArts! translated into her life, and helped her become more open to other people and experiences. Read more on our blog, here!
We were presented the Art Connection-RI Iona Dobbins Award at their 5th Anniversary Celebration of Art in Rhode Island on March 30th!
An exhibition of portraits created by our young artists ages 8-14, between 2011 and 2016, was displayed at the United Way of Rhode Island in April! The variety of style and media that made up this exhibition demonstrate the many ways young artists and their mentors can interpret this time honored subject matter. Works include photography, painting, drawing, stencil and spray paint, mixed media, collage, and creative writing.
We are so excited to celebrate this Spring Session with our Teachback event on June 2. This is where our youth teach BACK what they've learned to their friends, families, and Providence community! CityArts Gallery + Studios, 891 Broad St., Providence, RI 02907, 5:30 - 7:30 PM.
Thank you again for supporting of our mission!
¡CityArts! is a nonprofit youth arts agency, with a mission based on the ideal that all children should have access to arts learning as an essential part of childhood and youth development, regardless of socio-economic background. Your leadership will help support our free creative arts classes in art and design, digital media, music, dance and theatre for over 900 urban, at-risk elementary and middle school youth. These quality arts learning opportunities help youth gain the skills and experiences they need to become successful in school and in life.
