Your donation will provide access to clean water for rural communities that has been victimized by persistent drought for many years. Clean water helps keep the community healthy. Women and girls will spend less time fetching water. School aged girls will have time to attend school. Women can take care of their children. Students will have water and sanitation in their school. Clean water enables the community to grow ample food and generate more income to improve their living condition.
Most of rural Eritrea derives its water from dirty ponds, streams, and ground springs. With the destruction of most of the forests in the rural communities and with the long term drought experienced in the country the ponds, streams, and ground springs have dried up and much of the water is not safe for drinking. Consequently mothers and many young girls spend most of their day walking several kilometers to the nearest ground spring. Young girls who have to gather water cannot attend school.
There is a water reservoir in a town about five kilometers far from the first village that contains about 1200 meter cubes. A reservoir of 100 meter cubes will be built at the top hill of the first Village. A five kilo meter water pipes will be laid down in trenches from the reservoir in the town to the reservoir in the village and another five kilo meter water pipes will be laid down to the two villages. Ten kilo meters in total. Distribution stations will be built in each of the villages.
As mentioned earlier most rural Eritrea is getting water from dirty ponds, streams and ground springs. Our long term mission is to built water wells in villages one villages at a time in rural Eritrean villages. Women and school aged girls will be relieved from traveling several kilo meters a day of fetching water. The residents of these villages will be healthy by drinking clean water and sanitation. School aged girls will have the opportunity to go to school and will be educated citizens.
