Associacao Acorde is located in the outskirts of Embu das Artes and Cotia, cities within the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo State, Brazil. These areas lack opportunities for activities that complement formal education and safe spaces for children to engage in play, sports, and personal development. The Acorde for Sports project aims to serve 270 children and adolescents, by offering access to complementary education through workshops in Taekwondo, Capoeira, cooperative games, and African games
According to Itau Social's 'Every Hour Matters' study, at the end of the 9th year of Elementary School, children from families with high social vulnerability receive 7,124 fewer hours of learning than children from more privileged families. This period is equivalent to 7.9 years of regular education. This difference is a reality for project participants, as public schools in the region have not yet implemented the full-time education policy, created to mitigatet this inequality.
We believe in children and adolescents and their ability to develop their potential when they have access to opportunities and the right conditions. Therefore, Acorde for Sports will offer more than 1,200 hours of sports activities, reducing this inequality, precisely in the most important stages of development, childhood, and adolescence.
Acorde for Sports will impact the lives of 1080 people each year. In addition to children and adolescents, their families are also part of the project, through a partnership between the Social Worker and the Municipalities of Embu das Artes and Cotia, to strengthen family bonds, referrals, and access to public services. The surrounding communities will participate in events and mobilizations, being able to access leisure activities and community strengthening.
