Our project is now fully funded from donations, grants and fundraising. The overall project we are now working on is much larger and we can still do more if we get further funding. It can fall in to two parts but both are so complimentary to each other. The first part is working with the Rotary Club of the Himalayan Gurkhas in rebuilding and building toilets at 8 schools. The second is to provide teaching and education to the staff and teachers, using First Steps Himalaya (First Steps Nepal) a registered charity with professional resources in education and training.
Overall the project to provide school sanitation and education in Nepal, after the devastation of the earthquakes, has started and is work in progress. The rebuilding and building project will possibly take up to 12 months being weather dependent. Not only have we provided the materials and labour to start to help build and re-build the school toilets etc. but the First Steps Himalaya Charity has started its part of the project by delivering the education to staff and teachers required to compliment the project. The staff are now more aware of new teaching methods and sanitary education to deliver this in a holistic approach . This part of the project (approx. one third in total cost) will complete over the next 3 -4 years.
The Rotary Club of the Himalayan Gurkhas are controlling the funding, for the build/re-build, we send them and are accounting regularly to us. As the project progresses the costs are monitored by us as well and ensure they are in line with the budgets set.
There has already been one amendment to the plans in that we are now providing more facilities per child/staff member than originally anticipated. We have increased the ratio of facilities to the number of users, which will help tremendously. This small additional cost is still within the budget.
At present there is little to mention other than action is now happening and speaks louder than words. Please look at the Clubs Facebook pages and see what is happening in real time. Go to https://www.facebook.com/kirriemuirrotary/

We are extremely grateful to all donors. We are still fundraising and this last weekend raised a further £3000 for our overall target. This money and that raised so far on GG means we can help another school. Funds raised to date excluding grants are over £50k and we have grants coming of another $50k (approved) and £50k (being processed, told ok but awaiting confirmation). We have sufficient funds to start but we want to put them all together so that our partners can do the whole in one go. It will work out cheaper. Subject to the last grant, we now have the project fully funded but we can always help improve the sanitation and education in more schools than we have in our project to date as we recieve further funds. All funds raised to date will be used.
The partner providing the educational part of the programme is already to go and there already in Nepal but that will happen when we start our project. We expect the project to start, on a practical basis, over the next 6 months. With all funding in place we can proceed. We will only do that when the funds are recieved. We control the distribution of the funds for the project.
The schools and staff in Nepal are all very excited that we can help them (and so many more people). Our partners at the Rotary Club of the Himalyan Gurkhas are also ready to proceed. They have to manage the project and in order to get other funding grants they have now completed the paperwork. Our club looks forward to being able to get started asap. More up dates will come.
Thank you.
