The Umoja Project has had over 100 requests from primary school administrators requesting to partner with our project. The need is great, but the resources are limited. Our catchment area includes well over 100 primary schools, and we currently provide services to students in 18 schools.
Thanks to donors like you, we are adding a 19th school for the 2019 school year!
The school to be added is Uradi Primary School. Uradi is located near Lake Victoria in Osiri Sub-location, South West Kisumu, in Kisumu West Sub County, Kisumu County, Kenya. Of the 386 students who are enrolled in early childhood education and primary school at Uradi, 186 are orphaned and vulnerable children. These children often drop out early to take casual jobs to earn money for their families. The enrollment shows this impact, class 8 has only 18 students this year, versus 45 students in class 3.
In this community, employers struggle to find people to hire who have finished class 8. Our tangible services, such as serving school lunch and providing uniforms, combined with our compassionate care and empowerment have helped more children to stay in school and perform well.
As our programming launches in this school in 2019, we look forward to tracking the retention rates and performance, so that we can measure the full impact of the Umoja Project.
