This project will provide shelter, basic needs and services such as counseling, legal aid, medical care and reintegration to survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child abuse. The project aims to support 450 children and women in Kenya. Survivors accessing GBV services at the shelter will be able to recover from physical and emotional trauma as well a being able to live normal lives away from the abuser. The project will also sensitize the host community on response and prevention of GBV
Violated children and women have needs that arise from the abuse, in addition studies show that 67% of abused children are less than 1 year old, and 80% are less than 3 years old. For many of the children rescued from "risky environments", there exists a past history of abuse; repeated abuse is estimated to occur for more than 50% of the incidences; and repeatedly abused children have a 10% chance of sustaining a lethal event. This project seeks to respond to the needs of 450 children & women.
WRAP will provide a safe shelter, and this will ensure children and women are removed from the abusive environment. This will prevent recurrence of abuse. The survivors will also have access to medical, counselling services which will ensure physical and emotional healing. The project will also provide legal services which will ensure access to justice to survivors. Children survivors will be provided with education and enrollment in schools, this will ensure continuation of their education.
The project will provide shelter and related supportive services(Counselling, medical ,legal, reintegration/repatriation) to 450 women and children. This will ensure that the survivors of Gender Based Violence(GBV) recover from their physical and emotional trauma, thereby ensuring that they are able to rebuild their lives, regain self esteem and live a self directed life. It will also increase awareness and social change as a lasting solution in the effort to stop GBV in the community.
