Many children in Haiti are in need of physical rehabilitation; some are born with disabilities while others experience trauma, amputations, neurological problems, or have orthopedic needs. Tous Ensemble is a rehabilitation center in Southern Haiti working to help these children, and the only one that provides physical rehabilitation, prosthetics and orthotics, free clubfoot treatment, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc. Every year 500 children receive therapy or other services at Tous Ensemble.
In Haiti the rights and rehabilitation of those with disabilities are not prioritized, even though more than 163,667 people live with disabilities (IHSI, 2015). Many of them are children in need of rehabilitation. Tous Ensemble is the only rehabilitation center in Southern Haiti that aims to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through both therapeutic and educational programs that help to achieve the maximum possible level of functionality, independence and autonomy.
We treat children with different diagnoses, including Cerebral Palsy, developmental delays, clubfoot, neurological, orthopedic and musculoskeletal problems, among others. We offer integrated services that can improve patient autonomy and quality of life, such as occupational and physical therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, clubfoot treatment, assisted devices (wheelchairs, walkers, etc), home visits, training for parents, advocacy in disability rights, as well as recreational activities.
The Project will treat 500 children in need of physical rehabilitation services, train at least 50 parents of children with disabilities about the needs and rights of their children, increase the mobility of more than 100 children through orthotic and prosthetic devices, and advocate for the rights of people with disabilities to the general population in order to foster a more accessible and inclusive community.
