This project supports 50 refugee children from Myanmar's Chin State living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, apart from their parents. By funding KRC's Partner School program, you can provide these children with food, shelter, and education-giving them not only safety today but also the chance for a brighter future.
There are currently over 200,000 refugees registered with the UNHCR in Malaysia. Of this number, 60,000 are children. Refugee children in Malaysia are not allowed to attend public schools; therefore, 56% of primary children are not in school and a staggering 84% of secondary children (ages 13-17) are not enrolled in any type of secondary education. These numbers become even more dire when children are separated from their parents during the migration journey.
KRC's Partner School Program identifies promising but under-resourced refugee schools in KL. These schools serve as feeder schools to our secondary program, ensuring students have a pathway to continue learning. One such school is The Peace Education Centre (TPEC), which provides education, shelter, and hope to more than 50 refugee children. You can help ensure that TPEC continues to provide a brighter future to some of the most vulnerable children in Southeast Asia by supporting this project.
TPEC continues to be a lifeline for the most vulnerable refugee children in Kuala Lumpur. Students who find their way to TPEC gain a secure home, three meals a day, a family environment, and the opportunity for a brighter future through education. In the long term, these students increase their chances of breaking the cycle of poverty, avoiding exploitation, and becoming future leaders who can contribute meaningfully to the communities where they ultimately build their lives.
