Riders for Health are mobilising health workers across 8 countries in Africa, enabling them to travel to and distribute healthcare to the most rural communities. Millions of men, women and children don't have access to life-saving healthcare due to the fact that transport is simply not available. Riders provide the missing link and your donation could provide training for a health worker, equipping them with the skills to ride a motorbike and reach those that have, until now, been unreachable.

The majority of the population of sub-Saharan Africa live in rural areas where the best roads are little more than dirt tracks. Public transport is infrequent and delivering health care on foot or by bicycle between sparse villages is an exhausting and ineffective task. Put simply, without reliable transport the millions of pounds that is invested in vaccines, drugs, bed-nets, condoms and trained health professionals every year will be wasted as they will fail to get to where they are needed.

Training is at the heart of Riders for Health's work. With road accidents one of the biggest causes of premature deaths across Africa, our motorcycle and vehicle training courses are designed to keep drivers and riders safe and their vehicles in the best possible condition. Our trainers specialise in teaching health workers and people who provide vital outreach services to drive or ride their vehicle safely and effectively - on both tarmac roads and the toughest terrain.

Long-Term Impact

By combining a blend of theory with hands-on practical training and basic maintenance, not only will trainees be equipped to drive or ride more safely and efficiently but they'll know how to look after their vehicle. They will then be able to reach many more rural communities, providing essential life-saving healthcare to those who are most vulnerable. The success of this system has been proved in Riders programmes for the last 20 years and with your help we can continue to provide this service.
