Dear Friends,

Thank you for your support to the poor hospitals in Honduras during the COVID supply crisis. We seem to be able to obtain an adequate amount of supplies at this time.

The help you provided during this extremely difficult time gave people what they needed to get through this situation. With the funds we were able to provide help for 8 agencies and the Northern coast of Honduras. This was a game changer for so many individuals that were unable to get help elsewhere.

We have decided to retire this project to move on to helping the people still struggling with no healthcare in Honduras.

The highest priority at this time is to be sure people have their basic needs met. Food, Shelther and Healthcare.

Thank you for your continued support to our home project; Clinica de Esperanza/Clinic of Hope.

Gratefully Yours,

The Elderly have been hit hard. The nursing home connected to the Hospital only has one bathroom for each long hallway. Most of the patients are not ambulatory. Many of the healthcare providers quit because of the fear of COVID.

Friday we were able to bring bedside commodes, wheelchairs, and walkers so these folks that can not take care of themselves or get to the bathroom can use the potty chairs next to their bed or be wheeled in a wheelchair when they can not walk. It is very frustrating and messy we you can not make it to the bathroom.

We also want time to visit them as they are very lonely. We put in permission slips while we were there and hopefully they will allow it. Thank  you for making this possible.

Walking beside you,

Triage in Tegucigalpa
Triage in Tegucigalpa

The system here in Honduras is still not able to provide for the needs of the people. When a person is to sick to stay at home we transport them to a place called Triage in the capital. It is here that they sort out the people according to how ill they are and where there are beds in the socialized hosptial system.

Last Wednesday we had such a patient that we transported to triage. They had run out of beds in the local hospitals so they have established covid beds in a sports complex in the Tegucigalpa. Eventually as beds empty out the patient is moved to one of the hospitals.

There are still many deficiencies in the system. We hope to continue to support the health care facilities in this country as well as keep the clinic up and running for people with needs here in the town of Santa Ana.

Thank you for your support during this difficult time,

BACK TO BACK HURRICANES
BACK TO BACK HURRICANES

Thanks to people like you we were able to get supplies to the people on the Mosquito Coast or "Moskitia" . These people have no roads to the remote area on the coast that was devastated by back to back hurricanes. Supplies have to be brought by air or sea.

The people here make a living by free diving up to 150 feet to collect sea cucumbers, lobster, and conch. Many develop the bends from rapid ascents and end up in wheelchairs by the age of 40. They sell the goods to North America and Asia.

These supplies included PPE equipment, food and water. During this visit it was discovered there is a great need for the 700 plus families with babies that need milk. Food and Water. This will be our next goal.

Gratefully,

Hospital San Filipe Street
Hospital San Filipe Street

Dear Friends,

A shipment of gloves made it to on August 4th after many struggles with shipping and customs. They have been distributed since that time. Many to the Hospital Escuela, the largest public hospital in Central America. They were out of gloves period.

The Thoracic Hospital had been out for 3 days. They were running from the street to the OR (see pictures) with my physcian friends who were delivering and helping their fellow workers. Can you even imagine having to operate on people with no gloves, no shoe covers or surgical hats in a sterile envioronment. Or being the patient for that matter. Covid or not, people still need appendectomy's gallbladder removals and all manner of repairs from accidents.

San Fillipe was in a similiar state. It touches me deeply to see these healthcare providers sticking with taking care of the poor armed with nothing. We will continue to see them through this crisis. I hope to help the islands and mosquito coast next. Their ability to get supplies is bad on a good day. Impossible now. We are in contact with the military in hopes they can get the things needed there. The mosquito coast of Honduras has no roads into the area and speaks a whole other language. They are cut off from the world except by air and sea.

Thank you for helping these folks. They think you are angels.

Serving with you,
