Most of the time, the artisans of Cojolya cannot obtain medicines and health services due to high costs . Thus, health care is not a priority for many families and, in many cases, the search for medical treatment is put off until it is too late. In addition, the artisans who work in Cojolya are between 18 and 75 years old, and since they have been weaving since they were young, they are more prone to arthritis, eye problems and muscle pain.
Health care is a human right , but it is not accessible in rural Guatemala, especially for indigenous women.
Thus, these health cards will allow them to access medicines at one of the pharmacies in Santiago Atitlán. This will help improve their working conditions , increase the autonomy and equal rights of Mayan women and make the community aware of the importance of taking care of their health . Additionally, our health program allows artisans to live longer, work at something they love, and continue to put food on their table thanks to the fair trade income they earn with Cojolya.
