Provide Medical Care to Maya Women Artisans

The Healthy Artisan project began in March, with the goal of directly supporting the artisans. In the past few years, five artisans have retired from Cojolya due to health problems. For this reason, we started this program to provide medical appointments to all artisans. We identified some artisans with ongoing health issues that required specialized medical attention. Thank you to our project donors for making this medical care possible.

María, an artisan for more than 25 years with Cojolya, expressed the following: “I am grateful to project donors for supporting me. Now I feel much better and my discomfort has reduced significantly.” María hopes to be able to continue working as she loves to weave and she has dedicated herself to this since childhood.

Cojolya would like to continue supporting the artisans of Santiago Atitlán, generating job opportunities for them and medical care. For Cojolya to continue this support, we need donor support. With a small monthly donation, we can continue supporting artisans with their medical issues.

Our artisans are dedicated and hardworking. They did not have academic opportunities but did all they could do to preserve the traditional art of Santiago Atitlán. Cojolya is dedicated to caring for the health of the artisans. Since there are fewer and fewer people dedicated to traditional weaving, it is necessary to preserve the culture and customs of the town so that the next generation can inherit these skills.

Now is the time to make this project grow. Helping our artisans helps whole families, as many are mothers with families who depend on them.
