In 2020, the whole world lived new experiences. Our lives were in danger due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The people of Santiago Atitlán do not have the safety net of medical insurance, which puts their lives in even more danger.
For this reason, in 2021 Asociación Cojolya is implementing a health program to support the artisans and make sure that they enjoy good health and don’t leave their health as a last priority. Due to their economic situations, the people of Santiago Atitlán tend to only seek medical attention when their health problems have become critical and in many of these cases, it is no longer possible to save their lives.
The goal of this project is to encourage the artisans to make their health a priority through providing them with medical consultations and donated medications. Women’s health should be a priority internationally and Cojolya is setting the tone with this project.
The first round of medical consultations was done in the Hospitalito Atitlán, the only hospital in our community. During these consultations, every artisan who participated was able to receive the medication they needed to help them manage their health problems.
By providing this first round of medical care, we identified that several of our artisans are in critical condition and need to be treated by specialists. We would like to invite you to support these women and help them receive the medical attention that they need so that their pain can be relieved as soon as possible.
