Provide Medical Care to Street Children in Kabul

I am very pleased to report that steady progress has been made towards opening the clinic at the Aschiana School for Street Children.  The necessary extra steps to insure that quality construction is completed, the proper equipment is secured and appropriately trained medical staff are employed has moved our opening date to the first weeks of October.  We are delighted that the clinic is on schedule to be open before the winter weather sets in.

Final blue prints were reviewed this week by AMOR's CEO Dr. Mark Scoffield and the Aschiana School's Dirctor Engineer Yousef.  Bids to complete the construction have been submitted by several companies and selection of the contractor is anticipate before Dr. Mark complets his trip to Afghanistan.

Direct Relief International has graciously donated much of the equipment needed for the exam rooms.  The equipment has been selected and properly packaged onto pallets.  Shipping is being done through the Denton Program offered by the Military on their cargo plans.  This program requires that the shipment wait until there is sufficient space available on a cargo plane going to Afghanistan before it leaves the United State.  There is no charge for this type of shipping when it is being done for Non-profits providing humanitarian relief.  AMOR saves thousands of dollars each year by taking advantage of this generous service.  We anticipate the equipment should arrive in Kabul some time in September.

Dr. A. Bashiti is a graduate of the Family Medicine Residency program at Afshar hospital and has accepted a position at the Aschiana Clinic.  She will have a key role in overseeing the final set up of the clinic.  We look forward to using the funds raised by your generous donations to this project during the this final set up phase when lab supplies and medications will be purchased.
