When 15yearold Nakiru joined the Life Skills Project in Karamoja, she had dropped out of school after becoming a young mother. With no income and little hope, she struggled to provide food and education for her child. Through HCK’s training centre, Nakiru enrolled in bakery classes and received psychosocial support to rebuild her confidence.
Today, Nakiru runs a small bakery business in her village. She is one of 360 participants who have completed vocational training, and among the 220 households now reporting increased income. Like 300 other child mothers, she can pay school fees for her child, breaking the cycle of poverty.
Her story reflects the wider impact: 850 youth have received psychosocial support, and food security has improved in 27% of households as families invest in farming and nutrition. These achievements show that the project is not only teaching skills but also restoring dignity, resilience, and hope.
Thanks to the donor support, young parents like Nakiru are building sustainable futures. With $540,000 as the total goal and $539,321 still remaining, every contribution helps more child mothers transform their lives from idleness to independence.
