Insulin can be essential for diabetic patients, however, due to lack of facilities for its storage, patients in remote areas do not have access to this lifesaving medication. SHINE Humanity will provide 30 registered patients with lifesaving insulin and self-monitoring test kits. Patients will be counseled for dietary and lifestyle changes and will receive regular care including podiatry and ophthalmology.
Insulin is an essential medication that can save lives of patients with diabetes, access to which is incredibly limited in Pakistan's rural areas. With the cost of an insulin vial ranging from $5 to $30, it is largely impossible for the underprivileged to afford medication and monitoring. Moreover, due to lack of electrical facilities in rural areas, safely storing insulin is very difficult. Lack of education and hospital facilities in remote leads to misunderstanding the disease.
The Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia and Hypertension program at SHINE Humanity encompasses medical treatment, lifestyle management and nutritional counseling for patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus. We maintain vigilant follow-ups to ensure the community gets the help they need. Screening is done based on HbA1C, a revolutionary step in rural areas, followed by routine blood tests for a holistic point of care.
SHINE Humanity will provide 30 registered patients with live-saving insulin in Gharo, Thatta. This will include regular follow-ups with specialists, such as ophthalmology and podiatry care. Patients will also be counseled for dietary and lifestyle changes for self-monitoring and better management of the disease.
