Our 38 students at Le Tonlé vocational training center (operated by a local NGO called the Cambodian Rural Development Team) came to the end of their training program which lasted 3 months. The conclusion of a great experience that provides them skills in house-keeping and food and beverage service, they are now equipped with skills for a flourishing future in the hospitality sector. They are talented and they will succeed in life, we wish them all the best luck!
The social enterprise consists of the the Training Guesthouse, Restaurant and the Training Center. Between August to October 2019, Le Tonlé recruited 29 new students onto the training program. The new cohort come from rural areas in Stung Treng and Kratie Province, in Cambodia. The new students include 14 young women and 15 young men. The training of Le Tonlé focuses on two main components namely Food and Beverage Service and Room service. We also teach our students English so that they can more easily communicate with tourists once they start work. The training curriculum is developed on the basis of the Common ASEAN Tourism Curriculum (CATC) in which 7 competencies, including core, generic and functional competencies, are adopted in the four-month training. The training also integrates a one-month traineeship for students to enable them to practice their theoretical knowledge in a real-time setting of hospitality businesses in Kratie town. By the end of the training course, a skill test is conducted to assess students’ capability against the ASEAN Qualification Reference Standard. The skill test allows students to achieve a certificate of competence from the Ministry of Tourism. After completing the training program, the students then go and do an internship for 1 month with a hotel and or restaurant in Kratie Province. Following the successful completion of their internship students are able to find jobs immediately in hospitality industry.
By supporting us, you are supporting disadvantaged rural youth to obtain a qualified certificate in hospitality. Furthermore, you are giving them a great opportunity to earn a respectable living and to kick-start a promising career. Your contribution will help us in improving the quality of our work to better suit the needs of our trainees and to prepare them for the Cambodian job market of hospitality.
