YouthHubAfrica in 2021 and 2022 supported two public schools in Nigeria that have a combined average population of 2700 learners who are majorly children from low-income/poor/underprivileged homes by equipping each of the school's ICT labs with 31 computers, UPS, a projector and other accessories. Post the setup, YouthHubAfrica plans to provide internet access in each school to enhance the quality of teaching and learning through ICT.
There are currently more than 2700 learners and over 50 teachers combined in two of the public schools in Nigeria where YouthHubAfrica supported in installing computers and UPS; 87 per cent of the students in these schools are children from very poor homes, and the installed computers are their first point of contact with a computer. Although computers have been installed and are being used, internet access and usage, which improves teaching and learning, is one need yet to be met.
With an additional investment of at least USD 5000, both schools will purchase and install internet devices and services. A 12-month Data subscription will be made. The ICT teachers of both schools will be trained in handling the devices. When installed and up, the devices will provide wireless internet access to all the teachers and learners during school hours, improving the quality of teaching and learning for the school community.
The project will empower 2700 learners and over 50 teachers of the two schools with internet access, thereby allowing them unhindered access to numerous robust learning and teaching materials, including the best teaching models available on the internet. This internet access will aid the students in performing better in their external examinations and enhance their transition into higher institutions whose entrance examinations are hugely tied to candidates' ability to research online.
