In August 2018, an earthquake struck North Lombok killing 560, injuring over 1,000 and leaving 417,000 people displaced or homeless. The loss of tourism and now the impact of COVID19 has left the local economy devastated. People cannot afford food, basic goods or healthcare. Many are still living in tents. Bumi Sehat Lombok operates a mobile medical clinic in NW Lombok and is building a permanent center. The area was already underserved before the quake and healthcare needs are critical.
In August 2018, an earthquake struck North Lombok killing 560, injuring over 1,000 and leaving 417,000 people displaced or homeless. This ended tourism income in 2018-2019 and now the economic impact of COVID19 has left the local economy devastated. People cannot afford food, basic goods or healthcare. Many are still living in tents. Bumi Sehat Lombok is establishing a healthcare clinic in NW Lombok. The area was already underserved before the quake and medical need is critical.
Bumi Sehat Lombok is building a clinic and currently offers a mobile outreach program. The project provides physical and maternal health care, birth services, treatment of medical injuries/disabilities from the quake, trauma counselling and public health measures, such as providing clean water filters or mosquito nets. These services are aimed primarily at quake survivors to improve their long-term health outcomes.
Bumi Sehat Lombok is building and licensing a permanent clinic in NW Lombok. We currently run a mobile outreach program that will operate until area infrastructure and medical services can be rebuilt and restored. The new clinic will operate as a permanent health facility in an under-resourced area, serving around 3000 people locally and improving local health outcomes, especially in the areas of physical injury and maternal health.
