Victoria and her baby Brandi are finally home in the United States after a harrowing escape from Brazil — and it’s all because of your belief in our mission.
Just after giving birth, Victoria reached out to Pathways for help. The abuse from her husband had escalated during her pregnancy, and she was isolated with no family or friends in the U.S. or Brazil to turn to. She felt completely trapped — until she found Pathways.
Our team helped Victoria develop a safe and strategic escape plan, providing emotional support every step of the way. Once she and Brandi arrived back in the U.S., we ensured they had safe housing and the resources they needed to begin rebuilding their lives.
Today, this brave mother and her baby are safe and beginning to heal. Pathways coordinated every aspect of their return — including housing, legal assistance, and counseling. The process required more than 65 hours of communication, advocacy, and coordination with the U.S. Embassy, attorneys, and service providers — nearly all done by our dedicated advocates on a volunteer basis.
As you may know, Pathways has not received any government funding to assist American victims of domestic violence abroad since 2019. Your donations through GlobalGiving remain our primary source of support for survivors like Victoria and Brandi.
We are deeply grateful for your generosity and continued belief in our work. You make these stories of safety and healing possible.
Warmly,
The Pathways Team
