Provide Gift of Farming Inputs to Poor Farmers

Warmest greetings and thank you very much for your support to our initiative gift farming inputs for poor farmers. Agro reforestation is combination of the growing of trees, vegetables and the raising of farm animals. We are promoting this concept because it provide farmers with multiple income streams. The problem we met before with pure tree growing initiative is that farmers often ask how long do they get income from the trees. They are discouraged knowing that it will take 5-7 years for them to earn any income or to get economic benefits from the trees. With the agro reforestation approach they are assured of steady income streams even at the outset of the farming enterprise. This reporting period we are able to provide 23 farmers with various farming inputs such as small animals like pigs and goats, vegetable seeds and food supply to the really destitute. Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our initiative giving gifts of farming inputs to poor farmers. During this reporting period and amidst the danger and ravages of the coronavirus pandemic we provided poor farmers in 3 villages here with vegetable seeds, organic fertilizer and seedlings of high-valued fruit and timber trees. Tree seedlings are difficult to procure and this is one of the problems of resource-poor farmers. The seedlings are sometimes very expensive and our farmers are unable to purchase and raise them. We were able to provide 300 seedlings to 20 farmers during this period and they are very happy about this. Hoping for your continuing support to this important initiative. We want to reach-out to 1,000 farmers until the end of this year.

During this reporting period, we assume another track and that is providing farmers with the gift of latrines as a way of preventing the spread of diseases in the villages caused by open defecation. Open defecation is still rampant and the need to stop this is very urgent because water-borne diseases affects mostly children. The deteriorating health situation caused by poor sanitation makes the farmer weak and morbidity is high and this needs to be responded to. We are able to assist a total of 6 families in this manner by providing counterparts for the buidling of their toilets. Hoping for your kindness and generosity and assist us in this. We live by the adage give a man a fish and this time simple farming inputs like polybags, organic fertilizer, technical advice and seeds are pump-priming inputs that can start community development efforts in the rural areas rolling. These are small but very effective and we are happy to be of service using this particular strategy. Farmers at this time are in a very difficult situation with the Coronavirus pandemic still with no clear and effective control and our governments unable to cope and support communities that have high incidence. We have provided farming inputs to 200 farmers during this reporting period. Hoping for your continuing support.

This reporting period, we are starting to bring farmers located near our demonstration and training farm to visit and learn our improved farming techologies that they will be able to scale-up and apply in their own farms. The idea is for them to see and believe because most often just telling them is not enough. We use local transport in order to bring them to the farm and for them to go back. We aim to improve their farming situation using this method. During this reporting period we are able to bring 130 farmers for a farm visit. Hoping for your continuing support.
