Thanks for your recent generous gift to Bring Hope to a Destitute Family in North Sudan.
Your commitment to help the needy to get out of poverty is really appreciated by our trustees, and those who benefit most- the Children!
Your gift paid for their basic needs: (rent, foods, medicines, school fees, uniforms, study materials, and clothes). The beneficiaries are eager to see this project progressing.
Madame Alai Kibok recalled, “Before the help, life was no good, no good!” one out of her 4 children died from starvation. When they divorced, she wanted to commit suicide because as a divorcee she cannot be trusted, and accepted in a strict north Sudan Arabic culture.
No welfare office to approach for help so she can provide food to herself, 3 children, and a mother. In these two years she raised her children alone living in sub standard house in the outskirt of Omdruman.
Alai, is trained in the income generation skills, and was granted a microloan of $250. She opened a kiosk, sold tea to road peddlers before Sudan spited into two geographies. When South Sudan became Independence the business environment changed for South Sudanese in the north. Her kiosk was confiscated with the stocks because people from Juba lost their rights in Sudan by April 1 2012. Before they snatched her kiosk, Alai made $5 profit daily, and operated her business for 3 months Monday to Sunday. Her profits were $450 (Sudanese pound £2,025), also snatched, she kept them in a kiosk as Islamic law don’t allow a woman opening personal bank accounts.
Alai’s family of 3, a mother, and 350 people will be flown to Juba by June end, or July 15 by the help of IOM (under UNHCR - auspices in Khartoum). When this happens it will be reported in next field update.
Additional 8 new women have benefited from this initiative for a year. These women were granted microloans to start income generation businesses in a former Sudan. (Each women gets $100). These mothers have returned to their new country last May, and staffs from HOPE Ofiriha visited them twice in the camps near Juba air port. Yabba (a nice small boy) has also benefited from this initiative for 10 months because his mother is too young to provide for them.
Since this project is under implementation we will be sending you our quarterly reports about our work. You will get to know what your donation has helped impact, and what we have achieved.
