Alai: Will Never Forget your Help

Thanks for helping Alai's family of 3 children! Thank you for helping southern Sudan! Thank you for helping Alai's Mom.

Thanks for your generous donations over the years to Bring Hope to a Destitute Family in Sudan project. Your joined efforts assisted Alai, a mother, and her children to be alive.

Alai, 3 children, and a Mom, and other beneficiaries returned to South Sudan. They are living in Torit - Eastern Equatoria state. Your financial contributions have helped a lot, without it I don't know what could have happened when we were still in Omdurman. You safe our lives, said Alai.

Alai plans to get skills in running a tiny restaurant business for income generation in Juba, and Hayat, is making contacting with the school. The skill training is of a 3 month duration, and when she finishes she will be given a microcredit of $1000. This is the last help she gets from Hope Ofiriha.

This project has been retired because the beneficiaries returned to their newly independence nation. Hope Ofiriha takes this opportunity to thank our donors whose contributions made it possible to help these destitute families whom by then were living in Omdurman as internal displaced peoples (IDPs) .

The family arrived Juba

I met Alai in Juba, said Haya

We wish you a happy new year 2013!

Thanks for your recent generous gift to Bring Hope to a Destitute Family in Sudan project. Your committed to help the needy to get out of poverty is really appreciated by our trustees and those will benefit most – the children!

Alai, her 4 - children and a mother has arrived to African newest nation, said by Haya. A member of Hope Ofiriha met with Mrs. Haya in Juba to discuss new plans to help Alai stand with her own foot in a near future. Mrs. Haya, suggested that; Alai should be trained to operate a roadside tiny restaurant for recurring income generation. Now, Alai is receiving a new training under the guidance of Mrs. Haya, in Juba, and she will graduate after two months course. HO released $200 to pay for the course fees, foods, and transport – to and from school five days a week. Mrs. Haya has agreed to give them an accommodation until the training period is over.

HO will grant Alia a micro-loan in form of a start - up capital so she sets up a roadside restaurant for income generation to provide her family with basic needs, and pay her children’s education. Alai has suffered for years, but your help she is very optimistic about the future over since from Omdruman.

She is very eager to see this project progressing. She needs your help to your help so she can set up a tiny business in South Sudan capital - Juba.

While our communities had just started to adjust from the shocks and devastation of prolonged civil war, they were yet met by airstrikes and ground assaults launched against South Sudan in the bordering states by Sudan armed forces and militant allies. This brought more unnecessary displacement, vulnerability, anguish and human suffering.

Life in the South Sudan – Sudan bordering states became unbearable as cost of living steadily skyrocketed. While two nations have signed a deal to promote peaceful coexistence, the impact of recent conflict include Abyei has caused humanitarian needs to the affected people.

We therefore, request our partners to continue their support to Hope Ofiriha and more importantly to the needy and vulnerable groups in the communities. We look forward to working with all of you in 2013.

Food is Hope

Without Food - Alai's children of 3 have no hope!

Madame Alai Kibok recalled, “Before the help, life was no good, no good!” one out of her 4 children died from starvation. When they divorced, she wanted to commit suicide because she cannot be trusted and accepted into the main stream society in the former Sudan.

No welfare office for her to approach for help so she could provide food to her family and a mother. In these two years she raised her children as a single mother living with them in a sub-standard house in Omdruman. HOPE Ofiriha paid for their two years basic needs: (rent, foods, medicines, school fees, uniforms, and study materials, and clothes).

At a time of reporting, HOPE Ofiriha helped changed Alai’s family of 3’s conditions from being worse to good. They have hope, and optimistic about the future. Alai’s mother too is doing well and strong.

Alai, is trained in the income generation skills, and received a microloan of $250. She operated a kiosk, and sold tea to road peddlers before Sudan spited into two countries. After South Sudan became Independence, the business environment changed for it citizens living in Khartoum. Her kiosk was confiscated by the authority with the stocks inside because South Sudanese citizens lost their rights in the former Sudan on April 1 2012. Before, she made a profit of $5 daily, and operated her business for 3 months. She worked Monday to Sunday and saved $450 (Sudanese pound £2,025) clean profit. She has nothing left again.

Alai’s family of 3 and her mother will be flown to Juba by end of June, or July 15 through the help of (IMO-under UNHCR auspices).

Additionally, 8 other women from South Sudan benefited from this initiative for a year in Omdruman. These women were granted microloans to start petty business for income generations in Khartoum, and each got $100-. These women returned to Juba in May, and staffs from HOPE Ofiriha visited them twice in the transit camps near Juba air port. Yabba (a nice small boy) has also benefited from this initiative for 10 months because his mother is too young to provide food on table for two of them.
