Today, we'd like to share with you Zena's story. Over three years ago, EMAR took in a pregnant dachshund mix named Zena. While in our care, she gave birth to a litter of puppies, who soon found their forever homes. Zena found her home, too, with a family that included another dog. One night, Zena and her four-legged friend got away from their home. Her family and EMAR volunteers searched for her, put out fliers, and even used Facebook in attempts to bring her home. We even put ads in the local newspaper hoping someone had seen her, but it seemed as if there was no luck.
One day, Paula of EMAR received a text message with a photo of a dog along with the question, "Is this Zena?" With that one message, the journey to bring Zena home began. Paula and Melanie tried several times to catch Zena, but their attempts seemed futile. She had been on her own for so long that she was untrusting of humans. Despite their failed attempts, they never gave up hope.
Recently, a new family moved in close to where Zena had been staying. It was their dog who won over Zena's trust. She even let this new family give her a bath! With the help of these wonderful people, EMAR was able to bring Zena home.
Paula says, "We are so glad to have Zena back home at the rescue." Many supporters voiced their happiness on Facebook and we even heard from some of the families of Zena's puppies!
Zena has made a trip to the veterinarian for a check-up and has unfortunately had to undergo treatment for heartworms. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to provide her with the necessary care and treatments without worrying about where the funding would come from.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and Zena's!
