EMAR has taken in four dogs in the past month that have tested positive for heartworms, and one also needed hip surgery. Your donations are helping us to pay their vet bills! Meet the dogs you are helping below.
Beauregard: A regal bully breed pulled from Meridian's Animal Control Facility, it was obvious he had lived a rough life. We couldn't just leave him there, so EMAR pulled him. He tested positive for heartworms and traveled to his foster home in Jackson, MS. Sadly, Beauregard succumbed to his disease after a short time there, leaving us only with the comfort that he had known love in the last days of his life.
Yogi: A purebred Rottweiler left at Animal Control, he is fairly young and otherwise healthy. After finishing his heartworm medications, Yogi will be ready for a new home!
Sierra: Found along with her two puppies by a caring citizen of Meridian, Sierra was brought to EMAR in hopes of finding them all forever families. Her puppies will be available for adoption in a few weeks, but Sierra must undergo heartworm treatment before she will be ready.
Blake: Yet another gem found at Animal Control, Blake received a lot of attention when his shelter photo was posted on Facebook, but nobody went to adopt him. When his time was up, EMAR pulled him from the shelter and had him groomed, neutered, and tested for heartworms. He tested positive and had to undergo treatment. Our vet also discovered an old injury (likely the result of being hit by a car) and recommended immediate hip surgery. Blake is on "bed rest" for 6-8 weeks but has a potential home lined up for when he is fully healed!
