Provide Vet Care to Abandoned Animals

Hello from the team at East Mississippi Animal Rescue! We hope you have been doing well and staying safe during these uncertain times. We remain busy here at the rescue and continue to depend on donors like you to help us meet daily needs and fund emergency procedures. Today, we'd like to tell you about how your donations have helped Simba.

This past November, we received a call about a dog that had been hit by a car. The caller reported the dog was not doing well. It was raining that day and the dog continued to lie in the road, unable to move.

We arrived to check on the dog and the status of his injuries. Upon arrival to the scene, we were informed that the dog's owner had moved away and abandoned him. No one in the area was interested in taking ownership. We took the dog into our care and named him Simba.

Simba was taken to the veterinary clinic where it was determined he had a broken pelvis and femur, along with an obvious open wound to his belly. The veterinary team promptly worked to clean and repair the wound. Next up, they performed surgery to correct the broken bones. The bill for these services was approximately $900.

Simba's procedures went well and he continues to recover. He is not out of the woods yet, as he may have resulting nerve damage in his foot. The vet is hopeful he will have use of his leg soon. Simba has also tested positive for heartworms and will require treatment to rid him of the disease. He will remain in our care as he continues to heal; we hope that soon he will be ready to find his forever home.
